MIHCEMI is a hands-on initiative working towards becoming a non-profit, member organization.

Stemming from a volunteer Working Group consisting of 18 members from across Manitoba. With the support of staff members, various volunteer subcommittees work to bring events, programs and other initiatives to life.

Working Group

The MIHCEMI Working Group is here to develop safe, healthy and sustainable First Nation housing practices and standards.

It is a space to freely share best practices and information. The Working Group uses effective communication, honesty and transparency. Working in partnership with First Nations and Tribal Councils, governments, and housing authorities to bring collaborative, collective, and positive change.

Building Code Subcommittee

The Building Code Subcommittee identifies appropriate minimum building code standards for all Manitoba First Nation communities.

Members review conditions specific to First Nation communities and identifies training opportunities, with the aim of Manitoba First Nations to be able to access and increase housing capacity on-reserve with First Nation building code standards as a guide.

Housing Forum Subcommittee

The Housing Forum Subcommittee coordinates all activities necessary to hold a successful annual Housing Forum.

The event provides information on housing solutions, innovations and is a forum for open discussions on relevant issues impacting housing for Manitoba First Nations.

Training Subcommittee

The Training Subcommittee identifies training opportunities and subjects relevant to the day-to-day operations of Manitoba First Nations' housing.

It also coordinates workshops, conferences, online training and any other avenues to support Manitoba First Nations in increasing housing capacity on-reserve.
